BRAT

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Charli XCX made BRAT as her sixth album and the first after the extension of her contract with Atlantic Records in 2023. The production was handled by, among others, A. G. Cook, Finn Keane, Cirkut and her partner George Daniel. The record draws on the English rave scene of the 2000s, where she began performing as a teenager. She called it her most aggressive and confrontational work, but also her most vulnerable. The sound, in her own words, is minimalist, but very loud and brash.

Girl, so confusing is about a difficult relationship with another singer, later confirmed as Lorde, who took part in a remix. Rewind was a response to the success of Speed Drive. So I is about grief over Sophie. The critical response was exceptionally good, the album was nominated for the Mercury Prize and won three Grammys. The cover set off Brat Summer.
