Hallelujah

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Hallelujah is Canned Heat's fourth album and was released in 1969. It was the last album of the first line-up, because guitarist Henry Vestine left the group before the next album. Recording took place from January to May 1969 at I. D. Sound Recorders in Hollywood. Skip Taylor and the group produced it together.

The album mixes original songs with covers of blues classics. The song Canned Heat, credited to Robert Hite Jr., actually comes from Tommy Johnson, and Sic 'em Pigs is co-credited to Booker T. White. Alan Wilson sings and plays guitar and harmonica on tracks such as Change My Ways, Time Was and Get Off My Back. Huautla is an instrumental piece by drummer Fito de la Parra, with bongos and congas by Mike Pacheco. The album entered the Billboard chart on 9 August 1969 and reached number 37, staying for fifteen weeks.
