WINGS
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
WINGS is BTS's second Korean and fourth studio album. It was released on 10 October 2016 on Big Hit Entertainment, with Blood Sweat & Tears as lead single. The concept is strongly influenced by Demian, Hermann Hesse's novel about growing up, and is about temptation and growth. For the first time as a major group effort, it contains seven solo tracks, which show the individual strength of each member.
Leader RM explained that the harder a temptation is to resist, the more it occupies you, and that this uncertainty is part of growing up. In Begin, Jungkook tells of his journey to Seoul and meeting the other members. MAMA is about J-Hope's childlike feelings for his mother, and Awake was the first time Jin co-wrote the music. 2! 3! was the first official fan song. The reviews were positive, and in Korea it was, according to Gaon, the best-selling album of 2016.
