The One Giveth, The Count Taketh Away

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

The One Giveth, The Count Taketh Away · This Bootsy Collins album was released on 28 April 1982 and was his last for Warner Bros. Records. It was also the first record he produced entirely himself. Only Shine-O-Mite (Rag Popping) he made together with George Clinton, who also co-wrote the song with him.

Collins himself played bass, guitar, drums and keyboards. Many people from the world of P-Funk and the Rubber Band took part, including the horn players Fred Wesley and Maceo Parker, guitarist Phelps Collins and the group Godmoma. Two songs were released as singles: Take a Lickin' and Keep On Kickin and Shine-O-Mite. The single versions differ from the album versions and never appeared on CD. The album was reissued in Japan in 1990 and later in Europe. In 2007 an edition followed via Rhino Records.
