Vulnicura
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Vulnicura · After the tour for Biophilia, Björk began a new album about the time before and after her break-up with the artist Matthew Barney and about the recovery afterwards. The title is Latin and means healing of wounds. She produced it with the Venezuelan Arca and with The Haxan Cloak. To keep her mind occupied she wrote the string arrangements for fifteen strings. Arca joined late in the process: they worked side by side for weeks, and according to her that was the most fun she had ever had making music, with the most tragic subject.
The sound consists mainly of strings and electronic beats, a return to the direction of Homogenic from 1997. The album leaked two months early and therefore appeared digitally on 20 January 2015. There were no singles, but there was a series of innovative videos. Critics called it one of her most honest and personal records. It was nominated for a Grammy.
