Drawing Restraint 9
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Björk made this music for Drawing Restraint 9, the film by Matthew Barney in which she also appears. For the composition she travelled to Japan to study old Japanese music. Several pieces are built on the sound of the shō, a Japanese wind instrument with sixteen reeds, played by Mayumi Miyata. Zeena Parkins, who had already played on Vespertine, provides harp. On the opening track Will Oldham sings a letter from a Japanese fisherman to General MacArthur.
She herself sings on only three tracks. Storm is made from a song that she played on tour in 2003 and that, with help from Leila, she turned into a loop. The album was released in July 2005 and is her second soundtrack.
