LP5
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Nowhere on the packaging is there a title, which is why this 1998 album by Autechre came to be called LP5. On promotional copies it was called Album, and sometimes it is also simply called Autechre. It was released on Warp. The duo increasingly left behind the warm sounds of earlier records such as Amber. Instead, they chose the technical style of Chiastic Slide and the EP Cichlisuite, supplemented with influences from electroacoustic music.
A track such as Drane2 is a reply in a conversation at a distance: Aphex Twin made a bouncing-ball track in response to Drane, and Autechre answered with the same delay trick, now with percussion in it. Reviews were largely positive. AllMusic called the record uncompromisingly forward-looking. In 2017 Pitchfork placed it eighth on its list of the best IDM albums and spoke of a certain peak.
