From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Straight From the Heart · Straight from the Heart is the third album by the Memphis soul singer Ann Peebles, released on the Hi label. Her previous record, Part Time Love, was her first to reach the American R&B albums chart. She then began work on this album at Royal Recording Studios in Memphis. She chose Willie Mitchell as producer and worked with songwriters such as Don Bryant, her partner and later her husband, and George Jackson. The Hi Rhythm Section, the label's house band, also plays on it. I Pity the Fool, recorded by Bobby Bland in 1961, became a minor hit.
Critics were positive. Richie Unterberger wrote that the album showed how Hi surpassed the Memphis soul of its rival Stax in the early 1970s. It was her first record on the Billboard 200.
