Two Time Winners
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Two Time Winners is the third album that Andy Williams released on Cadence Records, in the spring of 1959. The title refers to songs that had already been successful twice or had succeeded in two ways. The album contains older songs in new arrangements, accompanied by the orchestra of Archie Bleyer, who was associated with all his earlier hits. The first single, Hawaiian Wedding Song, entered the Billboard Hot 100 at the end of 1958 and reached number eleven. Twilight Time was not released as a single until three years later and reached number 86.
Critics appreciated the light, sometimes exotic new versions. Billboard declared the record its Spotlight Winner of the Week, because old standards in new guises were becoming popular again. Another magazine wrote that the songs are treated with a modern beat and thereby prove their indestructibility. According to Music Vendor, the album appealed to adults and teenagers alike.
