Fado português

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Fado português · Fado Português is a fado album by Amália Rodrigues, released on Columbia in June 1965. It was recorded at the Valentim de Carvalho studio in Paço de Arcos. Domingos Camarinha played Portuguese guitar, and Castro Mota and Martinho d'Assunção played viola, the Portuguese acoustic guitar that accompanies the singing. The cover photograph was by Augusto Cabrita. Eight of the twelve songs were written by Alain Oulman, with lyrics by poets such as Luís Vaz de Camões, David Mourão-Ferreira and Alexandre O'Neill.

The album reached number one in Portugal and number two in France. In 2015, fifty years after its release, a two-disc edition appeared, with the twelve original tracks and unused versions from the recording sessions.

Listening

Listening tip. Listen to Erros Meus, to words by Camões, and notice how her voice carries the story, accompanied by the guitars.
