Radio Mali
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Radio Mali consists of remastered selections from earlier albums by Ali Farka Touré, originally recorded between 1975 and 1980. The record has sixteen tracks, and he plays guitar on all sixteen. On most of them he also sings. On Bra Nabo and Fangha they play the n'jarka, a fiddle, and Nassourou Sare plays n'goni on a few tracks.
The album opens with Njarka, a fragment of less than a minute, and closes with a second, slightly longer fragment. The title track Radio Mali lasts less than three minutes. Short pieces and long tracks of more than six minutes thus alternate, such as Bandalabourou, Gambari and Amadinin. The record gives an overview of the work from his first years.
