Toys in the Attic

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Toys in the Attic was released on 8 April 1975 on Columbia Records and was Aerosmith's third album. Producer Jack Douglas, who had already worked on the previous record Get Your Wings, almost became the sixth member of the group during the recording. The band had toured for a year and sounded tighter. After two albums with songs from the clubs, they now started from scratch: for the first time most of the material was written during recording, after months of preparation.

The album contains well-known songs such as Walk This Way, Sweet Emotion and the title song. Sweet Emotion and Walk This Way were released as singles in 1975. In the United States it became Aerosmith's commercially most successful studio album, with nine million copies sold according to the RIAA. In 2003 Rolling Stone placed it on its list of the 500 greatest albums.

Listening

Listening tip. Listen to Walk This Way and notice how the guitar riff and the rhythm of the drums alternate beneath the vocals.
