Get Your Wings
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Get Your Wings · Aerosmith's debut from January 1973 went almost unnoticed: no press, no radio, no reviews. The band responded by touring heavily and building an audience that way. In December 1973 they went to the Record Plant in New York to record a second album, for the first time with producer Jack Douglas, who would go on to make three more albums with the group.
Many songs had already been tried out in the rehearsal room and on stage. Train Kept a Rollin' was an old favourite from the live set, with a stop-start groove that came out of jamming during soundchecks. Lord of the Thighs was written last, because a song was still missing, and is about the seedy neighbourhood around the studio. The album produced three singles, but none of them reached the charts.
