Draw the Line
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Draw the Line · In 1977 Aerosmith were at the height of their popularity. Toys in the Attic and Rocks had made the band famous, but the heavy touring and drug use were taking their toll. For the fifth album the band moved in March, with producer Jack Douglas, to The Cenacle, a former convent near New York. There the Record Plant installed a studio. In Kings and Queens the drums stood on the altar of the chapel, while Douglas hit the snare from the confessional.
Tyler and Perry were less involved than before, so other band members also contributed to the writing. The sound is straightforward hard rock, with Draw the Line as one of the wildest songs. The cover is a caricature of the band by Al Hirschfeld. Critics were divided in 1977; later opinion was milder. Perry himself called the album the beginning of the end.
