Riot grrrl

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Genre

Riot grrrl · In the early 1990s, a feminist punk movement arose in Olympia, in the state of Washington: riot grrrl. Bands such as Bikini Kill and Bratmobile found the punk scene a man's world; singer Kathleen Hanna called out ‘girls to the front’. The bands made fanzines and released their records on small, independent labels.
