Venice Baroque Orchestra

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Artist

The Venice Baroque Orchestra is a Baroque orchestra founded in 1997 by the Italian conductor and harpsichordist Andrea Marcon. It is based in Venice. In 2019 it performed in the summer series of the Naumburg Orchestral Concerts, in the Naumburg Bandshell in Central Park in New York.

Music and breakthrough

The titles of the albums show what the orchestra concentrates on: the music of Antonio Vivaldi and other composers of the Venetian Baroque. The first recording was released in 1998 and contained unpublished concertos and cantatas from a manuscript in Venice. In 2000 came The Four Seasons with three violin concertos, followed by, among others, Late Violin Concertos (2001), L'arte del violino (2002), Late Vivaldi Concertos (2002) and Concerto veneziano (2005). The orchestra also recorded vocal music: Arias (2002), Andromeda Liberata (2004), Ah! mio cor: Handel Arias (2007) and Amor sacro: Vivaldi mottetti (2007).

Influence

The list of recordings shows that the orchestra plays both instrumental and vocal music, from violin concertos to arias and motets. It is thus an example of a contemporary ensemble that spreads the Venetian Baroque repertoire mainly through recordings and tours.
