Antonio Vivaldi
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Artist
Antonio Vivaldi was a priest and violinist in Venice who for decades worked with the girls of the orphanage Ospedale della Pietà, whose orchestra drew visitors from all over Europe. He wrote hundreds of concertos and made the form fast, slow, fast the standard, with a recurring refrain for the whole orchestra. In Le quattro stagioni of 1725 soloist and orchestra depict birds, thunderstorms and ice, after poems that are printed in the score. Bach arranged several of his concertos.
