From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Artist
Thomas Acda, born in 1967 in Amsterdam, is a Dutch cabaret performer, actor, writer and singer. He is best known as one half of the duo Acda en De Munnik. He grew up in the village of De Rijp in North Holland and after secondary school first went to drama school, but soon switched to the Kleinkunstacademie in Amsterdam. There he met Paul de Munnik. In 1993 they graduated with a joint production, for which they received the Pisuisse Prize. After that they split up for a while, and Acda played in the band Herman en Ik, among others.
Music and breakthrough
In 1995 the two got together again for the theatre show Zwerf'On. It was such a success that they put the songs on CD. Since then they moved between music and theatre. The duo came from the theatre and made songs with Dutch lyrics that stood between cabaret and pop music. The song Als het vuur gedoofd is was used in the film All Stars, and every episode of the accompanying television series began with Groen als gras. At the start of 2014 Acda and De Munnik announced that they were stopping as a theatre duo.
Influence
Acda also worked as an actor. From 1997 he appeared in films such as All Stars, The Missing Link and Lek, and in the series All Stars he played the goalkeeper Willem. He also appeared in In Oranje, Alles is liefde and Flikken Maastricht. For Alles is liefde he received a Rembrandt award in 2008. For years he was on the panel of the television programme Dit was het nieuws. His work shows how in the Netherlands cabaret, television and pop lie close together.
