Snelle is the artist name of Lars Bos, born in 1995 and raised in Gorssel, near Deventer. He began as a rapper and became a pop singer, with a series of number 1 hits in the Top 40 from 2019. According to him, his artist name refers to how quickly he gets drunk.

Music and breakthrough

Bos studied at the Herman Brood Academie. In 2016 he released the EP De Vier and in 2018 the debut album Lieve jongens. The breakthrough came in 2019: Scars and Plankgas went platinum, and Reünie became his first number 1 in the Top 40. That song is about the bullying he experienced as a child because of his cleft lip. Smoorverliefd (2020) he made with the insurer Interpolis, as a warning against texting on a bike. It spent three weeks at number 1. In March 2020, at the start of the coronavirus crisis, he made 17 miljoen mensen with Davina Michelle, a new version of 15 miljoen mensen by Fluitsma & Van Tijn. At 1 minute 47 seconds it is the shortest number 1 hit in the Top 40. Blijven slapen (2021), with Maan, spent ten weeks at number 1 and won an Edison.

Influence

Snelle belongs to a generation that first built an audience of its own through social media and streaming, and only then ended up with radio and the record company. He stands in a line that began with Osdorp Posse and the Nederhop of the 1990s: music from America, but in their own language and about their own subjects. After Lars (2021) and Achtentwintig (2023), Binnenspiegel was released in 2026.

Listening tip. Listen to Smoorverliefd (2020) first as an ordinary love song and then watch the video. Only at the end does it become clear what it is about: the video ends with an accident, because someone is texting on a bike.
