From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Artist
Pjotr Iljitsj Tsjaikovski · Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky studied at the new conservatory in St Petersburg and became a teacher in Moscow. Unlike the Group of Five, he mastered Western forms thoroughly, but his melodies and colours remained Russian. With Лебединое озеро (Swan Lake), Спящая красавица (The Sleeping Beauty) and Щелкунчик (The Nutcracker) he made great symphonic art of ballet music. His Sixth Symphony ends with a slowly dying lament; nine days after the premiere in 1893 he died.
