Pinar Toprak

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Artist

Pinar Toprak (born in 1980 in Istanbul) studied at Berklee in Boston and then settled in Los Angeles. She wrote music for films, television and games. For the series Krypton (2018) she created a large orchestral sound around Superman's family. For Fortnite: Save the World she worked on one of the biggest games in the world. With Captain Marvel (2019) she became the first woman to score a film of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as sole composer. Her theme for the heroine combines a powerful brass fanfare with a warm, human side. Later she also wrote the music for the game Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora (2023).

Listening

Listening tip. Listen to the heroic brass line with electronic pulses beneath it, and to how the theme grows bigger as the orchestra plays more fully.
