Paco de Lucía

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Artist

Paco de Lucía, born Francisco Sánchez Gómez in Algeciras, named himself after his Portuguese mother Lucía. From 1968 to 1977 he accompanied the singer Camarón de la Isla and in the meantime renewed flamenco guitar. His rumba Entre dos aguas became a hit far beyond the flamenco world. With his sextet he brought the Peruvian cajón into flamenco, and in 1981 he played with John McLaughlin and Al Di Meola.

Listening

Listening tip. Listen to Entre dos aguas and notice the lightning-fast runs, played with alternating index and middle fingers, above a relaxed rumba rhythm.
