Natalie Holt

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Artist

Natalie Holt (born in 1982) studied violin at the Royal Academy of Music and then film composition at the National Film and Television School. She played in a string quartet and wrote music for British television, such as Three Girls (2017). For the Marvel series Loki (2021) she made a score with a large orchestra, a choir, synthesizers and the theremin, an electronic instrument that you play without touching it. It gives the deceptive god a strange, elusive sound. With Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022) she became the first woman to write the music for a live-action Star Wars production. John Williams supplied the main theme for it.

Listening

Listening tip. In the Loki music, notice the floating, gliding tone of the theremin and the sound of a solemn choir with synthesizers.
