Martin O'Donnell & Michael Salvatori

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Artist

Martin O'Donnell & Michael Salvatori · Martin O'Donnell and Michael Salvatori first wrote advertising music together in Chicago. For the game studio Bungie they made the music for Myth (1997). Halo: Combat Evolved (2001) followed. The Halo theme begins with a men's choir in the style of Gregorian chant, after which strings and percussion come in; elsewhere in the score electric guitars can also be heard. This mixture of old and new gave the science fiction world a solemn, mysterious character. The music in the game responded to what the player did and became more tense during fights. The theme returned in Halo 2 and Halo 3 (2007). For Destiny (2014) they worked with Paul McCartney. Halo brought game music closer to the film score.

Listening

Listening tip. Listen to the men's choir in church style and how strings and drums then drive up the tempo.
