Junkie XL (Tom Holkenborg)

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Artist

Junkie XL (Tom Holkenborg) · Tom Holkenborg (born in 1967) became known as the Dutch dance producer Junkie XL. His remix of Elvis Presley's A Little Less Conversation became a worldwide hit in 2002. He then went to work in Hans Zimmer's studio in Los Angeles. His first big score of his own was 300: Rise of an Empire (2014). For Mad Max: Fury Road (2015) he wrote music that thunders along like an engine block: drums, distorted guitars and an orchestra that hardly pauses for breath. In the film a guitarist even plays on a moving truck. For Deadpool (2016) he used synthesizers from the 1980s. He combines dance production with orchestral writing.

Listening

Listening tip. Notice the unbroken, mechanical rhythms of drums and synthesizers, over which the orchestra plays short, hard motifs.
