Goblin

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Artist

Goblin was a progressive rock band from Rome centred on the keyboard player Claudio Simonetti. For Dario Argento's giallo Profondo rosso (1975) they first played music by Giorgio Gaslini. When Gaslini left after a quarrel, Argento let the band write the score itself. The main theme, with a repeated organ and bass motif, became a hit in Italy. For Suspiria (1977) they went further: Moog synthesizer, celesta, bouzouki, tabla, whispering and screaming create a hypnotic, frightening sound. They then wrote the music for the European version of George Romero's Dawn of the Dead (1978). Goblin brought the sound of rock and synthesizer to the horror film. That work influenced a great deal of later synthesizer horror.
