Alessandro Cicognini
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Artist
Alessandro Cicognini, born in Pescara, was Vittorio De Sica's regular composer. He wrote the music for the great films of Italian neorealism: Sciuscià (1946), Ladri di biciclette (1948), Miracolo a Milano (1951) and Umberto D. (1952). Those films showed ordinary life after the war, often with amateur actors in the street. Cicognini did not opt for a sober approach. He wrote melodic, Romantic orchestral music with a clear sentiment. That gave the harsh stories a human warmth. He also worked for popular comedies, such as the Don Camillo films, and for De Sica's Stazione Termini (1953).
