In september 1968 trok Joan Baez naar Nashville voor een marathonsessie. Daaruit kwamen twee albums voort: Any Day Now en een jaar later David's Album. Het negende studioalbum is een dubbel-lp met alleen liedjes van Bob Dylan. Baez legde Dylans bladmuziek op de grond, sloot haar ogen en koos blind, zo ontstond de tracklijst. Zes liedjes stonden op dat moment nog niet op een officieel album van Dylan. Love Is Just a Four-Letter Word heeft hij zelf blijkbaar nooit opgenomen. Baez tekende bovendien illustraties bij elk nummer, die in de hoes zijn afgedrukt.

Het album haalde nummer 30 in de Billboard-lijst en kreeg in 1969 goud. Thom Jurek van AllMusic noemde haar de beste Dylan-vertolker en schreef dat haar stem de betekenis van de liedjes uitbreidt.
