Lady of the Night is het debuutalbum van zangeres Donna Summer en kwam op 26 februari 1974 uit in Nederland, bij Groovy Records. In 1973 zong ze achtergrondzang op een album van Three Dog Night. In de studio ontmoette ze de songschrijvers en producers Pete Bellotte en Giorgio Moroder, die haar talent zagen en haar een eigen plaat aanboden. Bellotte produceerde, en samen met Moroder schreef hij bijna het hele repertoire.

De meeste nummers zijn pop en folkpop. De singles The Hostage en Lady of the Night werden in Nederland kleine hits. The Hostage haalde de top drie in België en Spanje, Lady of the Night de top tien in Oostenrijk. Het album zelf kwam in geen enkele hitlijst.
