Justin Hurwitz

Justin Hurwitz (geboren in 1985) studeerde aan Harvard, waar hij regisseur Damien Chazelle leerde kennen. Sindsdien schrijft hij de muziek voor diens films. In Whiplash (2014) draait alles om jazzdrummen. In La La Land (2016) liet hij de Hollywoodmusical herleven, met liedjes die naar oude filmmusicals en jazz verwijzen. Hij won er twee Oscars mee, voor de score en voor het lied City of Stars. Voor First Man (2018) gebruikte hij een theremin, een elektronisch instrument dat je zonder aanraking bespeelt. In Babylon (2022) schreef hij luide jazz voor een grote band. Hurwitz bouwt zijn scores rond een paar sterke thema's die steeds terugkomen.
