Jonny Greenwood werd in 1971 in Oxford geboren en is gitarist en multi-instrumentalist van de band Radiohead. Hij studeerde kort muziek, maar leerde vooral zelf, met grote belangstelling voor Messiaen en Penderecki. Zijn eerste filmscore was de documentaire Bodysong (2003). Voor Paul Thomas Andersons There Will Be Blood (2007) schreef hij strijkersmuziek met clusters en glijdende tonen, die de olie, de woestijn en de obsessie van de hoofdpersoon hoorbaar maakt. Met Anderson maakte hij ook The Master (2012) en Phantom Thread (2017). Die laatste klinkt juist romantisch, met piano en strijkers in de stijl van de jaren vijftig. Voor Jane Campions The Power of the Dog (2021) liet hij een cello tokkelen als een banjo.
