Feeling the Space

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Feeling the Space is Yoko Ono's fourth solo album, released in 1973, and her last on Apple Records. The whole album revolves around feminist themes and the problems women faced in the 1970s. The sleeve notes parody adverts for adults: they give telephone numbers, birth dates and measurements of the male band members. John Lennon appears on it as John O'Cean, with the song Not for Sale.

Lennon plays guitar on Woman Power and She Hits Back and sings along on Men, Men, Men. The album was intended as a double album, until EMI and Apple demanded that it be shortened. The musicians include Jim Keltner on drums, Michael Brecker on saxophone and Sneaky Pete Kleinow on pedal steel. On release, Billboard called it her most commercial record to date and praised the melodic songs and the singing.
