Mister Yellowman
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Mister Yellowman · Mister Yellowman is the first studio album by the Jamaican deejay Yellowman. In October 1982 it was released on Greensleeves in England, and under the title Duppy or Gunman in Jamaica. It was his first record with producer Henry Junjo Lawes. The Roots Radics and Earl Chinna Smith's Hi Times band played, and Lawes made a warm mixture of dancehall rhythms and dub out of it.
Billboard wrote that reggae is stripped down to the minimum here, with vocals that are almost as often rapped as sung. Allmusic called it a masterly deejay record. Trouser Press praised Mister Chin, Two to Six Super Mix and Yellowman Getting Married, which was inspired by My Fair Lady. Mojo and Pitchfork later included the record in their lists.
