Kirite

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Kirite is a 2005 album by the composer Yasunori Mitsuda, based on The Five Seasons of Kirite, a story by Masato Kato. Mitsuda and Kato had previously collaborated on Chrono Trigger, Xenogears and Chrono Cross. This time it was not made into a computer game. They conceived the concept in 2003. The album was released together with Kato's story in Japanese and a collection of nature photographs.

The story is set in a world of magic and fantasy, where a boy, a girl and a darkness meet and the world quietly begins to go mad. The music contains influences from Celtic music, jazz and ambient sound. Besides piano and vocals, violin, bouzouki, tin whistle, shinobue and shakuhachi are heard, among others.

Listening tip. Listen to The Forest of Lapis Lazuli and try to hear which instruments give the Celtic colour and which the Japanese.
