Les Retrouvailles

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Les Retrouvailles is the fifth studio album by the French musician Yann Tiersen and was released in 2005 on the label Ici, d'ailleurs. As on all his records he shows his versatility: he plays accordion, piano, mandolin and harpsichord, among other instruments, but toy piano, vibraphone and ondes Martenot can also be heard. The Orchestre National de Paris plays on five tracks.

New is the number of guest singers, French and English-language. Elizabeth Fraser of the Cocteau Twins sings in Kala and Mary, Jane Birkin in Plus d'hiver and Stuart Staples of the Tindersticks in A Secret Place. Miossec and Dominique A sing together in Le Jour de l'ouverture. The album comes with a DVD containing a short film, La Traversée, which shows the making of the record and also includes live versions of some of the tracks.
