Het dorp
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Song
In 1974, Het dorp by the cabaret artist Wim Sonneveld was released, shortly after his death. It is an adaptation of La montagne by the French chansonnier Jean Ferrat. The Dutch text is by Friso Wiegersma. The song is about a village that has been made unrecognisable by progress. The Dutch-language songs of those years came more from Paris than from Liverpool. Het dorp has ranked high in the Top 2000 for years.
Listening
Listening tip. Hear how Sonneveld tells the song more than he sings it, like a chansonnier, with nostalgia for a vanished world.
