Maladroit
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Maladroit · For their fourth album, the members of Weezer took a new path: during the recording they put demos on their website as MP3s every day to get reactions from fans. As a result, dozens of versions of more than thirty songs were circulating before the record came out. Radio stations even played the unfinished songs, which led to a dispute with the record company Geffen, because the band had paid for the sessions themselves. It was the first album with bassist Scott Shriner, and the group produced it themselves.
The sound is harder than before, with riffs that seem to come from heavy metal. Dope Nose and Keep Fishin' were the singles, and at fans' request Slob returned. The title, which means maladroit, was thought up by someone on the band's forum. The reviews were mostly good, although IGN found it a mixed result. Later writers called the album underrated.
