5150
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
5150 was released on 24 March 1986 on Warner Bros. and is the first album with singer Sammy Hagar, who replaced David Lee Roth. The title refers to Eddie Van Halen's home studio. Producer Ted Templeman had left; Donn Landee took over the production, with Mick Jones of Foreigner as an additional producer. The recording began in November 1985 and was finished in February 1986.
The record contains more love songs and ballads than earlier albums, and the guitar now sits on an equal footing in the mix. It is also the band's first album without instrumental tracks. The first reviews were mixed, but later it came to be seen as one of the group's most complete records. The album reached number one on the Billboard 200.
