ASTROWORLD
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
ASTROWORLD · Astroworld is Travis Scott's third album and was released on 3 August 2018. The title refers to the amusement park Six Flags AstroWorld in Houston, which closed in 2005. Scott wanted the album to sound like taking an amusement park away from children. He saw it as a sequel to his debut Rodeo. The recording ran from 2016 to 2018, including with Mike Dean, Hit-Boy, WondaGurl, Tay Keith and Tame Impala. On the cover, photographed by David LaChapelle, a golden inflatable head forms the entrance to an amusement park.
It is a hip-hop and psychedelic rap record with trap. Stargazing was described as psychedelic trap, and Coffee Bean has a funk guitar from old-school hip hop. Sicko Mode, Butterfly Effect, Yosemite and Wake Up were released as singles. The album received glowing reviews, reached number 1 on the Billboard 200 and was nominated for a Grammy for Best Rap Album.
