Remembering Bud: Cleopatra's Dream

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Remembering Bud: Cleopatra's Dream · The pianist Toshiko Akiyoshi recorded this trio album in 1990 as a tribute to the pianist Bud Powell. Almost all the pieces come from Powell himself, such as Cleopatra's Dream, Un Poco Loco and Tempus Fugit. The title piece, Remembering Bud, she wrote herself.

Playing with her are bassists George Mraz and Ray Drummond and drummers Lewis Nash and Al Harewood, depending on the track. The album was released on the Japanese label Nippon Crown and in the United States on Evidence. At nearly ten minutes the title piece is the longest track, and the other tracks mostly last four to seven minutes.

Listening

Listening tip. Listen to Un Poco Loco, a piece by Bud Powell, and notice how piano, bass and drums play together as a trio.
