Both Sides of an Evening

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Both Sides of an Evening is the fifth studio album by The Everly Brothers and was released in 1961, at the peak of their career. Even so it did not reach any chart. The fourteen songs are arranged in two halves of seven: the first side was labelled for dancing, the second for dreaming. The producer was Bill Porter, and the sessions together lasted only three days. Guitarists such as Chet Atkins and Hank Garland played on it.

Before the release, half-minute excerpts from the songs appeared on a one-dollar Souvenir sampler. The album contains mostly older songs, such as My Mammy and Grandfather's Clock. A reviewer at AllMusic found it their most ambitious and mature record up to that point, but not very exciting for the teenagers who made up the bulk of their audience, certainly not the second side.
