Dig Your Own Hole
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Dig Your Own Hole is the second album by The Chemical Brothers, recorded between 1996 and 1997. The duo already had a successful debut behind them, Exit Planet Dust, and had moved from Junior Boy's Own to Virgin. Two tracks first appeared as promo records for DJs, to try them out in the clubs. Noel Gallagher of Oasis wrote a lyric for an instrumental he was given: that became Setting Sun, a number one in the United Kingdom.
The record uses samples of Schoolly D and Lothar and the Hand People, among others. Block Rockin' Beats also became a number one, and the album went to the top of the UK chart. Critics praised the way it removed the opposition between rock and techno. Rolling Stone and Spin included it in their lists of the best albums of the 1990s.
