Two Against Nature
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Twenty years after their previous studio album, Steely Dan came back in 2000 with Two Against Nature, the band's eighth album. It was recorded from 1997 to 1999 and released on 29 February 2000 on Giant Records. Donald Fagen sang and played keyboards, Walter Becker bass and guitar.
Critics heard a bouncier and sharper sound than on Aja from 1977, a jazz pop that Robert Christgau called post-funk. The lyrics are about older men seeking validation and excitement in their love lives, with a sharp humour. The album won four Grammys, including Album of the Year, and Cousin Dupree earned the award for best pop performance by a duo or group. It reached number six on the American chart and went platinum. The tour of North America, Europe and Japan was just as successful.
