Slayed?
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
After their breakthrough with Get Down and Get with It in 1971, Slade scored one hit after another. The live album Slade Alive! reached second place on the album chart in 1972. Slayed? was the third studio album and was released in December 1972, under producer Chas Chandler. Mama Weer All Crazee Now came out as the first single in August and went to number one. The idea for that title came from a doorman in Lincolnshire, who told of a band that had played drunk. Gudbuy T'Jane followed in December and reached number two.
The album sounds stomping and hard, with fat guitar riffs and the screaming vocals of Noddy Holder. Yet there is melancholy in it too, especially in Look at Last Nite, a ballad about fame. Reviewers of the time praised the raw energy. The album topped the British chart and is later counted among the albums you must hear.
