Slade in Flame
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Slade in Flame · Slade in Flame was released on 29 November 1974, the fifth studio album and the first soundtrack album by the British group. Chas Chandler produced it. The band was by now big, but did not want a repeat of the same thing. So they starred in a film about the rise and fall of a fictional 1960s band, Flame. Noddy Holder and Jim Lea wrote the songs and gave them a sixties feel. After an American tour, the band spent a month on the recording.
Far Far Away became a hit, but the ballad How Does It Feel sounded very different from the pop music of the day. The album sold less than the three predecessors, all of which had been number one, and the gloominess of the film confused many fans. Critics were more positive: Classic Rock later placed it at number 18 among the best soundtrack albums.
