I’ve Got a Song for You

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

I’ve Got a Song for You · In 1966 Shirley Bassey left EMI's Columbia label and signed with United Artists. She stayed there for about fourteen years, until, ironically, the label was sold to EMI. I've Got a Song for You was her first record for that label. The producer was Kenneth Hume, whom she had divorced in 1965 but who remained her manager.

The album contains well-known songs from the American repertoire, including numbers by Irving Berlin, Rodgers and Hammerstein and Rodgers and Hart. It also features The Shadow of Your Smile and Strangers in the Night, as well as a new version of Kiss Me Honey Honey, which had been released as a single in 1958. In Britain the record entered at number 26, but stayed on the chart for only one week. In the United States it was released under the title Shirley Means Bassey, with a different cover.

Listening

Listening tip. Listen to Kiss Me Honey Honey. This is a new recording of a song that had already come out as a single in 1958, so notice how her voice sounds here.
