Anarchy in the U.K.

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Song

On 26 November 1976 Anarchy in the U.K., the first single by the Sex Pistols, was released. Manager Malcolm McLaren had brought singer Johnny Rotten into the band. On 1 December the band swore at the presenter Bill Grundy live on television. The next day it was on all the front pages. Concerts were cancelled and the record company dropped the band. Punk was now a scandal throughout England.

Listening

Listening tip. Hear the wall of double-tracked guitars and the sneering, half-sung, half-shouted voice of Johnny Rotten.
