Lonesome Crow

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Lonesome Crow is the debut album of the German rock band Scorpions. The group had only just turned professional and recorded the album under producer Conny Plank, reportedly in just six or seven days. It was released on 9 February 1972 in West Germany as the soundtrack to the anti-drug film Das Kalte Paradies. The style is dark and melodic, unlike the group's later work. It is also the only album with Michael Schenker as permanent lead guitarist, then only sixteen years old. He left soon afterwards for UFO.

A band member described In Search of the Peace of Mind as a ballad, the title song as a psychedelic rocker and I'm Goin' Mad as a great rocker with fine solos by Schenker. Action and I'm Goin' Mad are re-recordings of songs from an unreleased single from 1970, and thus the earliest released recordings by the band.

Listening tip. Listen to In Search of the Peace of Mind, the album's ballad, and compare its mood with the hard-driving rocker I'm Goin' Mad.
