Now and Zen
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Now and Zen was released on 29 February 1988 on Es Paranza Records, Robert Plant's own label. It is his fourth solo album, produced by Tim Palmer, Plant himself and Phil Johnstone. Jimmy Page, the guitarist of Led Zeppelin, plays the guitar solos on Heaven Knows and Tall Cool One. On the latter, Plant also used samples of Led Zeppelin, as a response to the Beastie Boys, who on their 1986 album had sampled pieces of that band without permission.
The record reached number 6 in the United States and number 10 in the United Kingdom. Reviewers responded positively. Kurt Loder wrote in Rolling Stone of a seamless pop fusion of hard guitar rock and computer sound. He later felt that many songs had been lost in the technology of the time.
