The Uplift Mofo Party Plan
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
The Uplift Mofo Party Plan was released on 29 September 1987. It is the only studio album on which all four founders of the Red Hot Chili Peppers play on every track: singer Anthony Kiedis, bassist Flea, guitarist Hillel Slovak and drummer Jack Irons. Producer Michael Beinhorn urged the group to broaden its horizons. The sound is funk rock, with influences from reggae and heavy metal.
Slovak experimented with those styles and used a talk box in Funky Crime. Flea played a lot of slap bass. The record did better than its predecessors and was the group's first to enter the Billboard 200. It was also the last album with Slovak, who died of an overdose in 1988. Irons left the group afterwards.
